Methodology
Source. Prime contract records (award types A–D: BPA calls, purchase orders, delivery orders, and definitive contracts) from USAspending.gov. Indefinite-delivery vehicles themselves are not counted; the orders placed against them are.
Periods. “Latest 12 months” runs Oct 6, 2025 to Oct 5, 2026 and is compared with Oct 6, 2024 to Oct 5, 2025. Fiscal years run October to September.
Dollars. Figures are net obligations: money committed through award actions, including deobligations and corrections. Obligations are not ceilings and not outlays. Contractor shares use positive obligations only.
Grouping. Markets are grouped by funding agency and by the NAICS code the agency recorded on each award. A market page is published when it had at least $5M in the latest 12 months, $1M in the preceding 12 months, and at least 10 awards with activity in each period.
Limits. DoD reports to USAspending with a 90-day delay. Agencies revise records after publication. Contract end dates are research leads, not confirmed recompetes.
